David passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2020 in Dickinson.

David Alvin was born in Dickinson on December 31, 1980, the son of Bryan Scott and LaDonna (Galster) McMahen. David was raised by his mother and step-father Jeff McMahen. He attended Dickinson Public Schools, graduating in 1999 from Dickinson High School. Family and friends were always very important to David. He found the good in any person and also in any situation. Anywhere David would go, laughter, happiness and love could be found. He loved making people happy and feel good, even at his own expense. He was always willing to be the center of laughs and was the best sport ever. David was a giver, special and unique in his own way, making a difference in many people’s lives. He was a person who always had a smile, someone who searched for the light at the end of the tunnel. He could find good in any person and made a choice to see that good no matter how minuscule it was. David worked as a bartender at the Elks and many various other jobs. He also loved to tinker, taking things apart and trying to put them back together again. Even though Mom was a little crazy about his mess, he could always find the smallest of things anytime. David struggled with addiction but he never struggled with being a loving caring person who was always willing to help anyone in any way he could. He strove to understand the other person’s point of view, because that was who he was. When he loved you, he loved you unconditionally, always wanting the best for you, regardless of how painful it was for him. David believed in people and never gave up on them. He had the biggest loving, forgiving heart. The world will miss his presence and a ripple effect has been set in motion. David mattered, still matters and we are all so very blessed to have been impacted by his days spent here with us. “A Life Taken Way to Soon!”

David is survived by his mother, LaDonna McMahen; father, Bryan (Felicia) Scott; siblings, Bryan (Trish) Wanner of Williston, Mandy (John) O’Brien of Mesa, AZ, Tom (Kelsey) McMahen of Mandan, Sean (Katie) McMahen of Dickinson; nephews, Clayton, Salem, Dominic, Noah; nieces, Kaolin, Chanelle, Kinsley, Anime; grandmother, Lenora Stanger.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Alvin Galster Sr., step-father, Jeff McMahen; and grandfather, Everett Stanger.
